I’m looking to sell some IPv4, what do I do next?

Do you have excess IPv4 address space or legacy ranges that you would like to make you some money?

Owning IPv4 is like owning land it will increase in value when there is more demand than supply. At the moment IP addresses range from $11-$19 per IP depending on the size of the block and availability. However if you don’t have to sell you space straight away we do expect this will go up. In a couple of year IP addresses may be worth around $25-$30 per IP. However in the mean time this will keep your APNIC membership fees higher than required, you just need to decide what is the best option for you.

Here are three tips to help you get ready to sell your IP space:

  1. You need to ensure your buyer has pre-approval from APNIC or their RIR for the size of the range you are selling.

  2. Think about when you want to sell it, you need to weigh the cost of keeping the rangers longer against the potential for a higher price per IP.

  3. You need to make sure your buyer is ready to go with their part of the transfer, if you are using Escrow, is it set up and ready? Do you to transfer through APNIC to an RIR? Will they have the funds ready to go? Is there a confidentiality agreement in place?

These are all assuming you have found your buyer and agreed on a price. If you are finding it difficult to find a buyer you might want to consider using an IP Broker. We are here to ensure you don’t have to spend your time looking for the buyer and making sure everything is in order, that is our job.
